The Akashic Record - A Fantastic Resource for the Writer or Mumbo-Jumbo?

Gustav Klimt - Tree of Life Adherents of the Akashic Record, sometimes described as The Book of Life, believe that every life and event that has taken place throughout the history of the world leaves a faint imprint on time which can be read by those who have the spiritual power to do so.   Madame Blavatsky  In the nineteenth century, spiritualism and the occult preoccupied many people. (Lola Montez, the heroine of my biographical novel, Becoming Lola, took a great interest in it at the end of her life.)  Later on in the century, the theosophist, H P Blavatsky became famous for her work in the field. She characterised Akasha (the Sanskrit word means 'sky' or 'aether') as a kind of life force that could be accessed through prayer and meditation. It also fascinated the Austrian philosopher, Rudolph Steiner, who saw it as a potential tool in his quest to improve human health and happiness.  The Record's benefits to the writer, particularly the writer of historical novels could be radical. Imagine it as a kind of in-depth interview with the past: a way of accessing not only the appearance but also the thoughts, motivations and feelings of people long dead.     Rudolph Steiner The novelist Elizabeth Chadwick, author of many bestselling mediaeval novels, doesn't claim to have the power to access the Akashic Record herself but says that the services of a friend who does are invaluable to her in her work. Of course some people will be sceptical but with such a recommendation, it would be rash to dismiss the idea out of hand. So, a fantastic tool for the writer or mumbo-jumbo? I'm still on the fence, but I know one thing for sure: when I'm writing or thinking about writing, my characters have a powerful presence that's almost palpable.
